July 25, 2010 - FFXIV Receives T Rating from ESRB

The ESRB officially gave FFXIV a T rating, which is to be expected -- "violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language." What wasn't expected was that the ESRB threw in a little... extra commentary, explaining their decision. Comedic gold ensues:

Players explore environments (e.g., cities, plains, caves) and battle human and fantasy creatures. Cutscenes depict a man being stabbed from behind, and creatures emitting splashes of purple or yellow blood when struck. Some female characters are depicted from low camera angles, with lingering camera views of their buttocks (i.e., up-skirt shots). Dialogue contains suggestive references; for example, “The netmaster’s probably up in his office polishing the mast just thinking about her,” “stick yer manhood in the forge,” and “You cheating little whore!” Several characters are referred to as drunk or drunken, while others sometimes talk about wine, rum, and grog. Oh my i think i may have woke up my mum with my laughing. ahhh anyway what do they exspect, Lots off FF underage fans will still get it though regardless

Indeed, it's more a legal thing than anything, kids will still buy Halo and Call of Duty and laugh at all the gore. Just another part of our society degrading. :)

lol well if kids want to play a game they will, this actually reminded me of a story. A friend of mine was telling me over the phone what games her kids play, she mentioned grand theft auto. I told her how to gain life back, and told her to ask her son, apparently he then gave her the oh crap i am busted look, very funny. I would also note the parent did not buy the game for him, he would go play it at his friends house. I do think it's funny how detailed this ESRB article is with the quotes, and "upskirt shot" comment..Have they always been that detailed? Also thank god the ESRB does not rate anime..although..it would be funny to read as well.

I just love that the ESRB has no issue discussing buttocks, {jerkin} innuendo, or the word "whore". Yet, the Seven Dirty Words are still too vulgar to print without censoring lol

Some words are condisered more vulgar then others and in other contrys it may as well be the oposit way around.
