Trailer Analysis

Ok, so I was watching the trailer for no apparent reason today, and noticed... During the whole Ghost Ship part of the trailer, there is only one Hume model doing battle. He has snowy white hair, and is fighting with what appears to be a Short-sword. I spotted him five times on the ship, and two were next to eachother.

1. First Axe swing of the Galka, squaring off against two of the parasite-like monsters.

2. Second swing of the axe, seems to be running. (Can anyone tell what he's holding?)

3 & 4. Third and Forth swings of the Axe, battling random monsters back there, can be clearly seen right before switching to the scene with the Mithra and the barrier.

5. Inside the barrier with the Mithra.

Could this be a clue, or is it just laziness on Square-Enix's part? From all the trailers I've seen for FF and other games they produce, they generally go all out, and don't cut corners. (They save that for the game!)

I see what you mean. I didn't get what you were talking about to begin with since the the boat scene moves so quickly, but then I got a lucky pause and there are indeed two very similar looking humes in the background. However, if you look closely, it's possible to make out some sort of discrepancy in the hair, although they could very well just be the same at different angles.

This is weird, nice find. I've got no clue what the meaning could be though, perhaps SE was just being lazy on character models? :P

In the interview at G3, they said that the part with the galka on the boat was in-engine and not cinimatic. But this doesn't mean it was actual people playing the game. My guess, it is part of a cutscene considering all the people are dressed similar.

They could also be part of the ship's crew. I mean, it is possible to have them all looking similar. Maybe they're all the same models, but different NPCs. Who knows?

I think in general it was just a quick cut scene they put together. They are probably still in the design phase of the characters/gear/races and all that. A lot of the testing is more than likely done with a default looking race/class to test out the system while all the others are built until usually beta (from my guess). Since it was an in game cut scene it's highly possible that is the case. Anyways good find Earl, I didn't even notice due to the speed of the trailer.

They wont have tails in FFXIV.

then i won't play them, hopefully we get another male character with a tail then, like a manthra

Really? I kinda like them that way more. I really dont know which race to be, lol. I know it is not going to be elvaan. They are too like delicate looking, just my opinion.

I read they aern't going to be called galka, like a whole new race replacing them. ... they look off balance without the tail though =P
